Tonight was beautiful.

So Lincoln Center is putting on this amazing Wordless Music Series that combines indie rock with classical music. It's genius. Tonight Katie and I went and it was AWESOME.

First up was A Hawk and a Hacksaw, a violin/accordian duo who played music that sounded straight out of eastern Europe...which I suppose is inescapable with that perticular instrumentation. Halfway through their last song, a horn sounded in the back of the church (they held this event in a church btw) and suddenly Beirut...an eight-piece band comprised of guitar, drum, accordiant, clarinet, and trumpet, among other things...comes marching down the aisle to join the two performers in stunning orchestral madness.

Next was Steven Beck, an incredible incredible classical pianist.

Then...

::drum roll::

ANDREWFUCKINGBIRD!!!

...in his FIRST EVER INSTRUMENTAL VIOLIN RECITAL BITCHES!!!

No words are necessary.

Suffice it to say that Andrew Bird is a god among men, and his violin is ambrosia for the soul.

This series is really an amazing idea. They're gonna have Broken Social Scene and Explosions in the Sky in the coming weeks, among others...all instrumental. I love it.

This week was pretty good I suppose.

Rachel and I got to escape the city for an afternoon for a lovely visit to the Rockefeller State Park Preserve in Tarrytown. So that was random and rustic.

I got to see James Katz at the Cupping Room, then catch the tail end of girls night.

This Saturday is my last training day at the hospital. Yikes.

Work is work is class is class. You know.

Trying to solidify plans for Europe. Oy.

Becoming kinda good at the violin. I've taught myself a few songs, which isn't bad considering I've devoted a day or two total to it (in the year that I've had it...I'm such a slacker/gemini)

Dyed my hair red. REAL red. None of this pansy-ass brownish blondish tinted shit.
I got compliments.

Melissa's coming tomorrow...possibly seeing the boys from Nine Days do an acoustic show...then Eliza's show on Friday...training as per-uge on Saturday...brunchin it up as always on Sunday...Fakesgiving that night (already!)...then the week happens all over again, culminating in a much needed journey home for turkey day.

You know how we do.

So...in honor of the fact that we're halfway through November and I'm comfortable at midnight in skirt and sweater only...I'll let the Postal Service sing it home...

and then last night I had that strange dream
where everything was exactly how it seemed
where concerns about the world getting warmer
the people thought they were just being rewarded
for treating others as they like to be treated
for obeying stop signs and curing diseases
for mailing letters with the address of the sender
now we can swim any day in november
